As medical technology improves, more and more devices will become available to the layperson for application in a medical emergency. One such example is the AED. The Automatic External Defibrillator is a device that allows virtually anyone give a jolt to help start the victim’s heart. Earlier, this type of treatment could only be administered by a trained paramedic or EMT out in the field, and doctors in a hospital. But thanks to computer technology, anyone could use the device.
Now, that doesn’t mean that the user doesn’t need to know anything at all, as the device obviously would need to be applied only in specific situations and mounted onto the victim correctly. If one doesn’t have any familiarity with these procedures, then during an emergency they may fumble around and lose precious seconds. That’s why just a little familiarization would go a long way should anyone find themselves in a situation where they need to use the device.
